David began his senior career with his native Drogheda in 2008. Mid-way through the season he was loaned out to Shelbourne where he scored 7 goals. After making the move to Tolka Park permanent, he scored 16 league goals in 2009 as Shels finished First Division runners-up again.
David played one season with St Patrick’s Athletic before joining Championship side Sheffield United. He made his debut in January 2011 as a substitute in an FA Cup tie against Aston Villa at Bramall Lane.
David also had spells with Shrewsbury and Stevenage, both initially on loan, and he won promotion from League Two with The Shrews in 2012. Injury restricted him to just two competitive appearances with Stevenage in 2015-16 and he joined Shamrock Rovers ahead of the 2017 season.
The tough-tackling midfielder scored 4 goals in 33 games in all competitions in 2017.
