FAI SSE Airtricity Under 15 League: Shamrock Rovers 9 – 0 Longford Town.

This fixture was originally down to be played in Longford but heavy rain during the week meant that Longford’s ground was unplayable and the game was switched to Roadstone.

While the rain did threaten at times it didn’t materialise. What did happen though was that Damien Duff’s team opened their own floodgates and drowned out the challenge of the midlands side.

The teams met in a pre-season when the Hoops had an emphatic win but for much of the opening exchanges it looked like a win with a similar margin wasn’t going to be on the cards.

Longford conceded early when they scored an own goal under pressure from winger Roland Banya. That helped the Hoops to settle into the game quickly and when Banya was involved again, this time forcing the ‘Town keeper into a save, Sinclair Armstrong quickly followed in to make it 2-0.

Craig McGuire, after a raid down the left, made the opening for Armstrong to get his second and Rovers’ third and the big lad completed his hat-trick soon after with a lob over the keeper.

A Hoops’ attack seemed to have been repelled until centre half Adam Wells came up in support and slotted to the net to make it 5-0.

Banya struck early in the second half when he scored number six from a tight angle and Sami Clarke scored a similar goal soon after that to bring the score up to 7-0.

Duff used his full complement of subs so there was minor disruption to the flow of the game but still they couldn’t be stopped as one of the subs, Charlie Gallagher, got number 8.

With what was the last kick of the game the forever lively Conan Noonan weaved his way into the box to drive low and make it 9-0.

The Hoops lined out as follows:
Kian Moore, Oisin Hand, Adam Wells, Craig McGuire, Matthew Scott, Conan Noonan, Evan Caffrey, Sami Clarke, Kyle O’Connor, Roland Banya, Sinclair Armstrong. Subs: Dara Oke, Charlie Gallagher, Killian Cahill, Kevin Platon, Victory Aibanghe, Nathan Anyanwu.
