Shamrock Rovers F.C. is delighted to announce the signing of wing back, Danny Grant, on a multi year contract.
Speaking about the club’s first signing ahead of the 2025 season, head coach Stephen Bradley said:
“I spoke to Danny when I was away on holidays recently. Danny was away as well, and we had a good chat. We arranged to meet when I came home, so we did and had a good conversation. I liked what I’d heard, I knew what he was about as a player. It’s clear he has really good attributes that will suit us in what we do.
He’s a clever footballer with really good attributes in the final third of the pitch. He’ll give us real directness in our play. Anyone I spoke to couldn’t speak highly enough of him as a person. So we’re delighted to get Danny in as there was competition from other clubs.
Danny can play anywhere, that’s the beauty of him, he can play on the right or left hand side or in one of the number ten positions, in the high midfield position. I think he has brilliant attributes if you remember before he went to Huddersfield how threatening he was. He has played over thirty games this year and can play a number of positions as I said. He’s very much in the Darragh Burns or Neil Farrugia mode, a ball carrier who wants to run and score goals. So, we really like Danny.
We can re-register players for the knockout UEFA Conference League knock-out phase after Christmas, so Danny could come into that picture, He’s been in training with the group already, which is great, the group is getting to know Danny and vice versa, so it gives us a bit of a head start.
I tried to get Danny four years ago so I’m delighted to get him now and look forward to working with him.”
A video interview with Danny will be available on SRFC Social Media this Friday.
Player Bio:
Danny (24) played with Leinster Senior League side Bangor Celtic before joining Bohemians’ Under 19 squad in July 2017. He first turned out for their senior team in a pre-season friendly against Drogheda United in January 2018.
Danny left Bohemians in December 2020, having accumulated 60 appearances and 17 goals for the Gypsies.
The Lucan native represented Ireland at Under-21 level, was selected for the PFAI Team of the Year and won the Young Player of the Year award that season.
Danny’s impressive form led to interest from Championship club Huddersfield Town, who signed him for the 2021/22 campaign.
However, his tenure at Kirklees Stadium was significantly impacted by injuries, and he didn’t manage to break into the first team during his two-and-a-half years with the Terriers.
In September 2022, Danny was loaned out to League Two side Harrogate Town, making 28 league appearances with them.
He rejoined Bohs midway through the 2023 season and played in their FAI Cup final defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic. The winger scored 5 goals in 41 appearances in his second stint at Dalymount Park.
