At the Shamrock Rovers training ground in Kingswood Cross Dublin 22, the Men’s First Team lined up in their famous green and white hooped strip to show their support for the GOAL Mile, which takes place in 165 locations across Ireland this Christmas. The beloved Christmas tradition will once again raise critical funds for GOAL’s life-saving humanitarian aid and development work in 14 countries across Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, and allow participants to make a positive difference this festive season.
Shamrock Rovers founded in 1899, is the most successful club in the Republic of Ireland, winning the League of Ireland title a record 21 times and the FAI cup a record 25 times. Rovers has also supplied more players to the Republic of Ireland national football team than any other club.
Before going out with the team to train, Stephen Bradley, Shamrock Rovers Head Coach, said:
“Being part of GOAL Mile this year means a huge amount to all of us at Shamrock Rovers. Football is about bringing people together, and that’s exactly what the GOAL Mile does, too. For the lads, this is a chance to give back and show solidarity with those who need it most. GOAL works with communities who’ve been through incredibly tough times, and for us, getting behind their efforts was an easy decision. We’re proud to stand with them.”
“Our message to other clubs and teams across Ireland is to join us in supporting GOAL. Whether you’re part of the Premier Division or just a local team, let’s all step up. Get your players, fans, and communities out for a GOAL Mile this year. It’s simple to get involved, and you can visit goalmile.org to find a Mile near you or even start a new one. Let’s show the strength of Irish football by coming together for a great cause” continued Stephen Bradley.
Also promoting Shamrock Rovers support for the GOAL Mile, Roberto ‘Pico’ Lopes, Centre Back & Captain said
“It’s massively important for Rovers fans and the wider sports community to support the GOAL Mile. GOAL is doing real work to help communities who have been through the hardest times. Supporting that through the GOAL Mile is something everyone can do – especially Rovers fans. We have a Mile here in Tallaght at our Athletics Club on Christmas Day.”
“Get out there and join in. Find a Mile or become an organiser by visiting goalmile.org. Let’s show up and do something good this Christmas” continued Pico Lopes.
