A first win on the board last Friday with the 1-0 against St Patrick’s Athletic. Having watched the game back, are you still happy with the performance and that we deserved to win the game overall?
“Yes, I’m really happy. What we set out to do in the game worked really well in general. I think we limited Pat’s to very little, there were a lot of crosses, but we knew that would be the case. I thought we dealt with them really well. In the main, I thought we were really comfortable and deserved to win the game.”
At 0-0 against St Pats, Ed McGinty made a crucial save to deny Aidan Keena, Danny Grant got the winner, Matt Healy again impressed and Michael Noonan has showed already his exceptional promise, so our new signings have really hit the ground running and hopefully we’ll soon see Adam Matthews and Seán Robertson make similar impacts as the season progresses.
“I think I said a few weeks back, the more they play with us, the more they get used to what we do, the better they will be for that. They’ll only get better as the season goes on, which is really important for us. They’ve all settled in really well, all have come in with a brilliant attitude to work extremely hard and buy into what we’re doing, which is so important. So, they’ve all been excellent.”
Drogheda are top of the league and unbeaten after five games and won the FAI Cup last season. Kevin Doherty has put together a very solid unit.
“Drogheda have been excellent. They’re top of the league for a reason. They’re not there by fluke or luck, they deserve to be there. I’ve watched all their games and they’ve been very good, Kevin has them really well organised. They carry a real attacking threat, so we know we’re in for a difficult game in Drogheda.”
Despite winning both games in Drogheda last season, 2-0 and 1-0, we had to work really hard to get the wins. What are the main threats you see with this Drogheda team?
“If you look at the past twelve months, they’ve scored up to 25 goals from set pieces, so they’re obviously very strong in that area of the pitch. So that’s an area we’ve got to make sure we really focus on and give Drogheda that respect. But in general, they’ve been really good and as I said, they’re not top of the league by luck, they’re there on merit. They’ve had difficult games and came through them all. So, it’s a difficult game for us tomorrow night.”
Did everyone come out of the St Pat’s game ok and how are our players who were on the injured list last week?
“Everyone came through ok, no issues but the usual few knocks which is quite normal. We have a few more back this week, the only ones still missing are Danny Mandroiu and Lee Grace. So, I’m happy on that front.”
