Shamrock Rovers F.C. is delighted to announce the appointment of Tommy Carberry as our new Head of Girls Academy. Tommy comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience working with the FAI as a Development Officer and also a Regional High-Performance Coach.

Through a rigorous recruitment process, Tommy demonstrated a passion for the girl’s game in Dublin. This was coupled with his knowledge and experience of coaching on the girl’s National Academy, overseeing and coaching on the girl’s Centre of Excellence. Along with his coaching experience, Tommy has also been instrumental in many coaches’ development in the Dublin area working as a coach developer for the FAI.

His involvement at National level with the Ireland Women’s U17 National Team as assistant coach and opposition analyst will aid our academy girl’s development, as he understands the qualities and skillset needed to play at the highest level.

Upon his appointment Tommy commented “what a great opportunity to be given to come in as Head of Girls Academy with such a fantastic club as Shamrock Rovers. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to the role and help the club achieve the vision they have. Growing the girl’s academy and increasing female participation through our Emerging Talent Programme and Academy structure will be a major part of this. I’m passionate about player development and to be able to develop players to come through our Academy system and go on to play for our Women’s Senior team.  I’m enthusiastic about the opportunity to also try and help develop our coaches, and mentor new coaches through our Academy system.”

Academy Director Simon Friel commented “We are thrilled to acquire Tommy’s services to lead the Girls Academy at Shamrock Rovers Football Club. This is an exciting time for the girl’s academy as the club want to expand and grow it further. His experience, knowledge and expertise will be integral to us achieving this objective and I look forward to seeing it progress in the years ahead.”
