Shamrock Rovers are delighted to confirm a new multi-year contract with Danny Mandroiu.
Danny had the following to say to ShamrockRovers.ie on committing his future to the Hoops:
Danny, you’ve made Rovers fans very happy by re-signing for the Hoops today. What’s your reaction to putting pen to paper again as the new season gets ever closer?
“I’m really happy to get the deal over the line and really happy to be at Rovers for the foreseeable future. I’m really excited for the season ahead.”
When you came back last Summer, were you considering that you might make the deal permanent or were you still considering other options when the very long season finally finished in December?
I was considering both and what might come up, but Rovers was top of my list, and I wanted to be here so, as I said, I’m excited to be staying at Rovers again.”
Stephen had expressed frustration that we maybe hadn’t seen you at your best when you came back due to missing a pre-season, just how important is a good pre-season in terms of match sharpness and avoiding niggly injuries?
“Pre-season is key, it gives you a base that sets you up for your whole season. I’m getting the full pre-season under my belt right now. As I said, I’m looking forward now to the season ahead.”
Just when it looked like you were coming into some end-of-season form after you and Graham Burke had played so well together in the 4-1 Conference League win at Larne, you got injured in Dundalk. Might that have been down to no pre-season or their pitch or a bit of both and how is that injury now?
“Yeah, it was probably a bit of both. Not having that full pre-season and going straight into a lot of games usually three days apart, I had felt an injury was coming. I probably played ten games straight in, but thankfully the injury is fine again.”
There’s a massive start to the season for us, the two Conference League games against Molde and the Dublin derby at the Aviva. How much are you looking forward to that massive start to the 2025 season?
“They’re great games to be involved in, tough games ahead, but they’re the games you want to be involved in, but they are exciting games and it’s why we play football.”
