Shamrock Rovers Academy are delighted to announce a new partnership with Jigsaw, Ireland’s leading youth mental health charity.
The new partnership will work to raise awareness around positive mental health amongst players and parents in the academy and the wider community.
The partnership will involve:
- Education of academy staff and players on the ways to promote positive mental health during players’ journey through the academy.
- Training for parents on the ways to support young people’s mental health.
- Awareness raising around positive mental health and the supports available through Jigsaw among the wider football community.
This new partnership will help support the mental health programme of the Shamrock Rovers Academy as they strive for excellence in providing support for young players.
The Academy is a safe environment for our players to reach their potential and the new partnership with Jigsaw will play a key role in enhancing what we offer.
Simon Friel, Director of Academy Operations at Shamrock Rovers, said:
“The work that Jigsaw do in our local community of Tallaght and nationwide is incredible. As an Academy we are really excited and proud about this partnership with Jigsaw. The values Jigsaw has as an organisation and more importantly around Mental Health is something that we share.
“We want to work collaboratively to continue to break down the stigma attached to mental health in young people and ensure that the support of experts is there for all our players.
“This will happen through the education of our staff, players and parents on the importance of their mental health and how this can impact them on their journey through the Academy. We look forward to seeing how our partnership evolves and the positive impact it will have on all our players”
Barry Dempsey, Youth and Community Engagement Worker at Jigsaw Dublin South West, said:
“At Jigsaw we believe in improving mental health and wellbeing outcomes for young people across the entire community. We are thrilled to announce this partnership with Shamrock Rovers Academy who are ideally placed locally.
“Together we will work towards providing support, education programs, reducing stigma, encouraging help-seeking and advocating for change. This collaboration will deliver a greater understanding of mental health and have an impact at Academy level, which aligns nicely with Jigsaw’s early intervention approach”
