Shamrock Rovers defender Roberto Lopes today launched Ireland’s biggest-ever nationwide programme of events for Africa Day, the annual worldwide celebration of the people, cultures and potential of the African continent.

Lopes, who plays international football for Cape Verde, joined Minister for International Development Sean Fleming, fashion designer duo Umjoa Linn, rapper Celaviedmai, and artist Tobi Balogun to launch the Africa Day 2023 programme.

Africa Day, which falls annually on 25th May will be celebrated across Ireland, including a flagship event on 21st May 2023 at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. The event will include a Cultural Village highlighting community groups from different African countries, a main stage with music and dance reflecting modern African/Irish culture and lots of creative entertainment for children.
