The death occurred on Thursday night of Arthur Cunningham, former club director at Shamrock Rovers. Arthur was the youngest son of Joe and Mary Cunningham and spent a massive amount of his life involved at the heart of the club.
Not only was he a member of the famous family who guided the fortunes of the club from 1935 to 1972 but he also served as a director and board member from a young age up to the time the Cunningham family sold Shamrock Rovers in 1972. He also served as vice-chairman.
Along with his other brothers and sisters, Arthur had a very active hand in the running of the club’s affairs both on and off the pitch. He was always very proud of his association with the Milltown club and was an absolute gentleman to deal with.
Arthur was 96 at the time of his death.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to his family at what is a sad time for them.
