Speaking today in advance of Thursday’s second leg tie Stephen Bradley said:
I thought we were excellent (last week). We switched off for key moments in the game and got punished but I thought throughout the game we really played well against a good side. The most pleasing thing for me was that even when it went 3-1, we could have easily dropped our heads and felt sorry for ourselves but we didn’t. We kept going, pushed on and got the second goal which for us keeps this whole tie alive.
It was a special, special goal (Graham Burke’s first). We watched it back yesterday as a group and you could even see the reaction from the lads how good it was. His touch before he even hits it was top class. He takes it out of the air on the half volley and kills it straight away and then his second touch he puts it in the top corner. I thought Graham was different class all night. He was brave, he kept us playing, he got on the ball and tried to make things happen. In big games like that, players like him need to come to the fore and he did, he was brilliant.
3-2 definitely keeps it alive, we need to be better defensively but we’ve shown we can go and score. I’m sure Boleslav will try and come out and put us to bed early. But I think we’ve shown that we can hurt them the other way so as long as we’re switched on defensively I believe we can go and cause them problems.
Boleslav played exactly how we thought they would. We knew they played 4-1-4-1 and they’d be very good in transition to attack and that seemed to be the case. I thought we dealt with it well maybe but for three key moments in the game and obviously we got punished. It seemed like they had three or four attacks and they scored three goals. I thought we did well overall, they didn’t surprise me in how they played but we need to be clever in how we set up against them.
We need to be clever and approach it in the same way, like every other game. We can’t go gung ho from the first minute and think we can win the game. If we score in the 70th or 80th minute, it’s game on. We don’t have to score in the first 10 minutes. We need to play the game for what it is and not be too careless.
We usually score wherever we go so I fully believe we can go over there and score goals. Danny Devine is out with an ankle injury and Paul Corry is long term. Darren Meenan hasn’t travelled. Other than that we’re fine.
