This month it will be 30 years since the final game was played at Rovers’ spiritual home of Glenmalure Park, Milltown. The opponents on that sad day in the club’s history were Sligo Rovers. During the week of our next home game on Good Friday, as it happens also against Sligo Rovers, we will be holding a number of events to mark the 30th of anniversary of the last game played at Milltown on April 12th 1987.
The list of events is as follows:
Dinner and entertainment
The highlight of the Milltown 30 commemoration will be a special dinner event before the game versus Sligo Rovers on Good Friday, April 14th. We will be joined for the event by players from the team that took to the field for the final game in 1987. As well as live entertainment, we will hear memories of events that day and of the time that followed. The cost of the 3-course dinner including a welcome drink is €30. The event will commence at 18:00. Full bar available. As we expect this event to be very popular, bookings are reserved for club members up to Saturday at 18:00, with season ticket holders able to book after this cut- off. Individual or table bookings can be made by contacting the club on 01-4605948 or email@example.com.
Commemorative walk from Glenmalure to Tallaght
On Good Friday, April 14th we will hold a commemorative walk from the Glenmalure Monument outside the old ground in Milltown to our new home in Tallaght Stadium. The walk will commence at 17.00 with expected arrival in Tallaght at 18.30. If there is demand, we will be running a courtesy bus from the stadium to the monument so that people can leave their cars at the ground. If you are interested in availing of this courtesy bus, please advise so that we can arrange accordingly. All participants will receive a commemorative badge as well as light refreshments on arrival.
We will have a photo exhibition displaying nostalgic images of the team and from that time back in 1987. Prints of many of these photos will also be available to purchase. Perhaps YOU have a photo or two in your personal collection at home? If so, we would love to reproduce them and include them in the exhibition with your permission and acknowledgement.
We will have a display of the various team jerseys from the 1980’s.
There will be a display of badges and other memorabilia from the period. While we already have a number of such items, we would love your help in making this a memorable display.
How can you help mark this special event?
Jerseys: do you have a jersey from the period which we could borrow for display purposes? All jerseys will be displayed on mannequins and will be returned in perfect order.
Programmes: perhaps you have a programme from the final match or a fanzine from 1987 which we could borrow/reproduce?
Memorabilia: do you have badges, buttons or stickers which we could put on display in a secure cabinet?
Photos: do you have a photo(s) from the match or the events at that time?
With your help we can make these events even better!
