The Hoops face UCD away from home on Saturday, kick off at Belfield is at 12pm, and Richie Smith spoke about how quick the turnaround from the last game is and how squad management comes into play at times like this. “This is where the management team come into it really,” said Smith.
“The 17’s and 19’s will train together now tonight and we’ll know who’s ready for Saturday, of course the 17’s played Tuesday and we played on Wednesday so we have to know the players that are fully fit. It really is only two days recovery before you’re playing another game so it’s a busy schedule for everyone.”
The Hoops Under 19’s managed to beat Cabinteely with an impressive result of 3-0. What else was also impressive was Jamie Aherne getting all three goals. When asked about Aherne and what kind of player we have on our hands here; “Jamie [Aherne] is brilliant,” he began.
“I chatted to the club after the win against Wexford Youths and I spoke about how good he was then, now we’re praising him again, he’s a wonderful talent. His workload in training is excellent, he’s lethal. He can score goals and provide a service. Hopefully now Saturday will be no different and if we can manage to get the service into him he’ll score a few more,” he said.
Jamie Aherne wasn’t the only one getting all the praise as Smith praised the management team throughout the underage sides and the senior side. “We’ve a great working relationship between everybody,” Smith said.
“There’s no egos, nobody's out just to win things, we’re all motivated towards the development of these players and everyone wants to see these players play in the first team. Aido [Aidan Price], Garts (Graham Gartland) and Robbo [Shane Robinson] all played for the club. So, I’m really enjoying working with them and of course working for them. It’s all a positive vibe in the squads.”
