www.shamrockrovers.ie was this evening announced as the winner of the 2010 Club Website of the Year Award by the Soccer Writers Association of Ireland (SWAI).
Having been nominated last year, Rovers web team went one better, beating off competition from Dundalk and St Pat's in the final three. The website is run on a voluntary basis by a number of Rovers members and fans, and great credit goes to the web team; Albert White, Paul Thomas and Alan Keogh who look after the technical side of the site, Declan Swanton on graphic design, George Kelly and Bobby Best for photography, Jim McBoyle for SRFC TV, Gerry Matthews for match reports, Mark Battle for the online shop and Shane Connolly and Robert Goggins for the schoolboy section news. The web team also includes club directors Martina Genockey and Mark Lynch. Speaking on behalf of the website team, Mark Lynch said: "The web team put in a really great effort over the year, it is a seven day effort running the website. It requires serious dedication and commitment and this is exactly what the team has put in. The SWAI award is a very welcome and fitting recognition of this effort". The site has developed significantly in 2010 and plans are already being developed for additional elements and improvements for next season. This year Jan-Nov, the site has chalked up over 658,000 visits which is up 20 per cent on 2009 and delivered 2.3 million page impressions. 228,000 people used Rovers website so far this year!
