JACKIE MOONEY RIP

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of former Hoops’ player Jackie Mooney who passed away peacefully last night at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Jackie joined Shamrock Rovers in 1962 from Cork Hibs at the age of 23. He played mainly as inside right and proved to be a keen goalscorer netting 38 league goals over a four year period at Milltown.

Jackie, a native of Ringsend, was also an Ireland international and he also had the distinction of scoring four goals against Bohs in the FAI Cup semi-final in March, 1963. Jackie was a nephew of Dinny Doyle who was a star on the Rovers team during the 1920s.

To Jackie’s son John and all of the Mooney family we wish to extend our deepest sympathy on their very sad loss.
