Shamrock Rovers announce Player Education Partnership with Ashfield College.
Two famous South Dublin fixtures have combined to provide a winning formula for young people involved in sport.
With a goal of ensuring an amazing future for young soccer players, Shamrock Rovers and Ashfield College are delighted to announce a partnership to deliver tailored Leaving Certificate programmes to the club’s youth players.
This partnership ensures that elite players can excel academically while still focusing on the development of their football careers.
Speaking on behalf of Shamrock Rovers, Shane Robinson (Academy Director) said: “For far too long this country has lost its most talented players to the UK at early ages. Most boys/parents have cited no real alternative for them to stay and fulfil their potential as the reason for this. It has been the club’s intention to combine a footballing programme with an educational one over the past three years. This partnership with Ashfield College now provides a real alternative for our best players to leaving these shores. We currently have three talented teenage Shamrock Rovers players (Aaron Bolger, Dean Dillon & Gavan Bazunu) in full time football training everyday with our first team whilst also sitting their Leaving Cert in one of the top ranking schools in the country in a schedule built around their footballing diary. Ashfield College has been successfully maximising their student’s potential for over 30 years. Shamrock Rovers will work hand in hand with Ashfield College and help the boys in every way possible to fulfil their footballing potential.”
Ashfield College Principal, John Winters, said: “Achievement is a by-word here at Ashfield College as all of our students work hard to achieve their life goals. We are delighted to welcome Shamrock Rovers young players to our Leaving Certificate programmes. These young players are already committed to excellence in their playing careers and this same commitment is evident in their approach to their studies.”
CEO of Ashfield College, Philip Burke; said: “The partnership between Ashfield College and Shamrock Rovers F.C. is an excellent strategic fit for both organisations. Both are committed to excellence and assisting young people in achieving their dreams in different ways. This combination opens the door for young players to achieve a successful future on and off the pitch. At Ashfield College we are acutely aware of the hard work and commitment required behind the scenes to make success possible. We are proud to be associated with such a successful club and we look forward to educating Ireland’s most promising soccer players for years to come.”
